General News: (1) Textbooks should be covered by now. Book socks (jumbo size) can be found at Target, Walmart, & Office Depot. (2) Don’t forget the first turn in date for the PTA fundraiser is this Tuesday 8/26. (3) School pictures for the yearbook are Wednesday – be sure and look your best! Don’t forget to mark which color background & pose you want & bring that to school with you on Wednesday.

Science

Mon. 8/25 CW: (1) Chapter 1 lesson 3 – scientific models. Read & discuss. Remember we tried to construct a model when we did the Obscertainer lab (last Wednesday & Thursday). We didn’t know what was inside, so we tried to make a physical model based on using our senses of hearing & touch. (2) workbook pp. 2-5 lesson 2 only (3) scientific method brochure HW: (1) textbook pp. 29-30 # 6-10, 13, 15, 18, 19 & 25-28 are due Wednesday (2) Test chp. 1 is this Thursday

Tues. 8/26 CW: (1) Tools, measurement, & safety – lesson 4. For right now the only tools you will be tested on are triple beam balance, meter stick, thermometer, & graduated cylinder. Know what each tool is and what it measures. (2) Flap on the four tools. The outside flap has a picture of the tool & the name of the tool. The inside flap tells what the tool measures & the unit in which it measures. (3) learn safety icons (4) wkbk. pp. 5 & 6 – all and p. 8 – all. HW: (1) textbook pp. 29-30 # 6-10, 13, 15, 18, 19 & 25-28 are due tomorrow (2) Test chp. 1 is this Thursday

Wed. 8/27 CW: Pictures were today, so we had to be quite flexible in our scheduling. (1) ALL classes were able to check workbook pages and home work so they have correct answers to study for tomorrow’s test over chapter one. (2) ALL classes received four (4) graded papers back today – the science safety test, safety brochure, class work on science safety pictures, and homework paragraph about science in the Olympics. (3) Classes B, C, & D (everyone except 1st period science) were able to begin on a review crossword puzzle for vocabulary for chapter one. HW: STUDY for tomorrow’s chapter one test!

Thurs. 8/28 CW: (1) Chapter one test (2) continue with chp. 1 vocabulary crossword (3) begin Something’s Fishy computer lab HW: none

Fri. 8/29 CW: (1) Mrs. Butner, the guidance counselor, came and presented Shelby County’s Policy 6408 which explains what is considered bullying & harassment and how neither is tolerated in Shelby County Schools.  Officer Landers, our school resource officer, explained how if bullying crosses into assault (someone is in fear of being hurt) then it becomes an issue with the law.  Students should now know that reporting being bullied and/or reporting someone else bullying is NOT tattling and is what should be done.  School is a place to learn.  HW: Have a great Labor Day weekend!!!!

August 18th – August 22nd

General News: (1) Parent night begins Monday 8/18 at 5:30 p.m. in the auditorium (2) TCAP scores from last year went home with students Monday afternoon. We had scores from students who attended Collierville Elementary or Tara Oaks last year. (3) Our fund raiser begins this Monday. Students will bring home Sally Foster gift wrap order forms and an Entertainment coupon book. Be sure to take good care of the Entertainment book since it is the sample to show. You may sell it to the last person who you take an order from and the deadline sheet shows turn in dates. Thank you for helping to put extra educational items in the school for our students!

SCIENCE 8/18 – 8/22

Mon. 8/18 CW: Review for Safety Test. Take another student’s test & grade it. Students who had their tests completed on time received a ticket. HW: Safety Test is tomorrow – STUDY!

Tues. 8/19 CW: (1) Safety Test (2) labeling your 5 pocket folders with each of your four subjects plus a folder labeled home/school. In your home/school folder you will put all loose papers (homework included) that are to go home and/or to come back to school. (3) Impossible Mission – p.3. Have fun with mom & dad seeing if they can determine how to fit through a piece of paper ONLY by folding & tearing it. HW: bring your composition book to class. If you haven’t purchased one yet, get it here by Monday (Walmart, Walgreens, & Office Depot all have them).

Wed. 8/20 CW: (1) Scientific Method handout – if you were absent be sure to ask for one when you return & see a classmate on what to highlight on the sheet (2) Begin Obscertainer lab HW: books need to be covered by Monday & you need your composition book by Monday

Thurs 8/21 CW: (1) Finish Obscertainer experiment (2) Learn how to access on-line science textbook. The web address is www.go.hrw.com click on science/health click on on-line textbook username: dragons6 password: dragons – this information is on the sheet sent home with our edublogs addresses on them (3) begin in texbook HW: finish 4 & 5 on lab sheet & composition books are due Monday

Fri.  8/22 CW: (1) chp. 1 lesson 1 – finish discussing  (2) wkbk. pp. 1-2 lesson 1 (3) Classes A & B – experiment on stuffing envelopes individually vs. assembly line  (4) begin Scientific Method brochure  HW: (1) composition book due Monday.  (2) textbooks covered by Monday.

Welcome Back Week 8/11 – 8/15

Mon. 8/11 CW: Go over rules & procedures. Get schedules, lockers, lunch number, & brown packet information. HW get all of packet information signed plus $20 workbook check in tomorrow

Tues. 8/12 CW: Learn how to rotate to each teachers & begin science safety information HW: what in the Olympics have you seen that relates to science – explain how it does in one well written paragraph. This is due Thursday.

Wed. 8/13 CW: Science Safety activities & begin science safety brochure. HW: if you want pictures from the computer for your brochure, bring them in tomorrow. SCIENCE SAFETY TEST  is next Tuesday.

Thurs. 8/14 CW: Safety activities & complete brochure. HW: Paragraph on how science relates to the Olympics is due tomorrow. Safety test is Tuesday.

Fri. 8/15 CW: Science Safety Test HW: Safety test is Tuesday.
