General News: My room is on an outside northern wall & gets chilly at times. Students probably need to be in long pants & have a sweater or jacket.  We have a HUGE Vetrean’s Day Assembly Friday, 11/7.  We will be sending care packages to soldiers serving overseas.  Please see the yellow letter about this that came home Wednesday of this week.  Veteran’s Day Holiday is 10/10 & 10/11 Thanksgiving Break is 11/26-11/30

Science: We FINALLY get to make our Power Points this Wedesday through Friday. On Friday, you will need a CD, jump drive, or $.25 to buy a CD from me so that you may take your Power Point home to share with your family.

Mon. 10/27 CW: (1) Investigating Symbiotic Relationships lab. All students completed this lab today. HW: (1) Be sure wkbk. pp. 31-35 are finished. (2) On Friday, you will need a CD, jump drive, or $.25 to buy a CD from me so that you may take your Power Point home to share with your family.

Tues. 10/28 CW: Geologic column lab – pp. 134-135. HW: (1) Read pp. 124-128. On paper write all vocabulary words in purple & their definitions. On the same paper answer # 1-4 p. 128. This is due Thursday. (2) On Friday, you will need a CD, jump drive, or $.25 to buy a CD from me so that you may take your Power Point home to share with your family.

Wed. 10/29 CW: Begin Power Point for Environmental Project HW: 1) Read pp. 124-128. On paper write all vocabulary words in purple & their definitions. On the same paper answer # 1-4 p. 128. This is due tomorrow. 2) On Friday, you will need a CD, jump drive, or $.25 to buy a CD from me so that you may take your Power Point home to share with your family.

October 20- 24

General News: Open House is this Tuesday from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. All families are invited to attend. The Book Fair will occur in the library & pizza will be sold in the cafeteria. The Book Fair & the cafeteria will open at 5:00 and classrooms will be open at 5:30. Report Cards will go home on Wednesday. There are MANY things in the report card cover – the report card, a health screening form which MUST be signed & returned, an Accelerated Reader requirement sheet which also must be signed & returned, a letter about Ms. Smart being out on medical leave from 10/31 – 1/5, and a letter about the new requirements for honor roll – students must have at least 4 A’s, no C’s, no N’s, no U’s & the MAPS classes are included in these requirements.

Just Say No/Drug Free Week Monday – wear red Tuesday – wear favorite cap for Putting a Cap on Drugs Day Wednesday – Sock It To Drugs- wear your favorite crazy or mismatched socks Thursday – Staying Away from Drugs is No Sweat – wear your favorite sweats Friday – Drugs are Just Tacky – wear your favorite tacky outfit

Mon. 10/20 CW: Today was a drug free assembly from 11:50 -12:40 and a Pep Rally from 2:00 – 2:50. So for those classes that met, (1) Students completed workbook pp. 31-33 (2) Students worked on getting some things ready for a lab later in the week. HW: (1) dress for a lab that will be outdoors on Wednesday (2) Project information is due next Monday

Tues. 10/21 CW: We looked at the cost of smoking in terms of dollars and our health. It costs $1,440 per year to smoke if you smoke a pack a day. Then we drew pictures of smokers & non-smokers in terms of the health cost & material possessions cost. HW; (1) dress for lab outdoors tomorrow (2) Project information due Monday (3) Open House is tonight. Classrooms are open at 5:30

Wed. 10/22 CW: Due to the 8th graders taking a standardized test this morning, several science classes were not able to go outside for the lab since we would have been right by their windows. The classes who were inside worked on the Geologic Column Sandwich activity & will go outside tomorrow. Those outside will do the Geologic Column Sandwich activity tomorrow. HW: There are MANY forms to sign in the report card cover (1) the report card cover (2) the AR letter (3) Health screening letter. Also is the letter explaining the Honor Roll procedures – this is for your information & does not have to be signed & returned.

Thurs. 10/23 CW: (1) Class A & Class B couldn’t go outside for the lab due to the weather. We will try again tomorrow. (2) Class C & D got to complete the Geologic Column sandwich activity. HW:the environmental project information is due Monday. We will make Power Points in class next Wednesday – Friday.

Fri. 10/24 CW: (1) Students read chp. 5 lesson 2 pp. 115-119 & completed workbook pp. 33-35 while reading it.  We will check it together on Monday.  We had our E S celebration today for all students who made E’s & S’s on their report cards.  HW: Your environmental project information is due Monday.  We will make Power Points next Wednesday – Friday.  Bring your own jump drive or CD, or bring $.25 to me to buy a CD next Friday so you can take your Power Point home.

General News: (1) THANK YOU if you have sent in a $5 gift card for our nine weeks drawing NEXT Friday. We are going to have a recognition for all students who maintained all E’s & S’s in conduct for the first nine weeks of middle school. Report cards are being issued next Wednesday, so we have our reward next Friday. If you would still like to send one in, please send it with your student no later than next Friday morning 10/24. (2) Open House is next Tuesday 10/21 in the evening from 5:00 -7:30. (3) Report cards go home next Wednesday 10/22. You can see the grades on Power School now.

OPEN HOUSE NEWS: TUESDAY 10/21 5:00 -7:30 P.M. All areas of school are open. Pizza will be sold in the cafeteria. The Book Fair is in the library. Please join CMS Counselors, Mrs. Butner and Mrs. Kelly, along with our SRO, Officer Landers, in the CMS Auditorium during OPEN HOUSE to view current DVD’s on Huffing and Drinking. This is information that you NEED to know! Handouts will also be available. The Huffing DVD will be shown on the half-hours at 5:30 and 6:30. The Drinking DVD will be shown on the hour at 6:00 and 7:00. Please make time in your Open House schedule to view this material.

Science 10/13-10/17 We need colored toothpicks for a lab by Monday, if you can help, please send a tube of them by Monday 10/20. ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT IS DUE MON. 10/27. We are making Power Points in class that week.

Mon. 10/13 & Tues 10/14 – Fall Break

Wed. 10/15 CW: (1) Thank you note to Mrs. Justis – Wolf River Conservancy (2) pictures of creatures – they went home to stay (3) finish the AWESOME webquest using the science textbook in the mobile lap top lab. HW: Project information due Mon. 10/27

Thurs. 10/16 CW: (1) Animal adaptations film – watch and take notes on 5 animals & their adaptations for survival. If you missed this, be sure to talk to a responsible student and ask what we discussed about animal adaptations & how they allow an animal to survive changes. (2) On 1/2 piece of manilla paper name an animal, draw the animal, & list at least 2 – 3 adaptations that help is survive. Put your name in the lower right corner. (3) Wolf River puzzle sheet HW: Project information due Mon. 10/27

Fri. 10/17 CW: (1) finish animal adaptation sheet (2) read together aloud & discuss pp. 112-114 (3) do wkbk. pp. 31-33 # 1-12 all. HW: Project information due Mon. 10/27

General News: Edublogs was down all of Monday. The end of the first nine weeks is Friday. Report cards will go home after Fall Break. We need $5 gift cards for our drawing after Fall Break. If you can donate a $5 card – McDonald’s, Target, Walmart, Starbucks, Malco, or any other place your student would enjoy, please send in the gift card with your student no later than Thursday of next week. Thank you !!!!!

Dates to Remember: (1) October 13 -14 – Fall Break no school (2) October 21 – OPEN HOUSE & PTA Fundraiser Pick up in gym lobby 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. (3) October 22- fundraiser pick up in gym lobby 2:30-4:00 p.m (4) October 24 – DJ Party for invited sellers from the Fundraiser – permission slips will be sent home

Science We will be doing a lab that involves colored toothpicks. If you could please send a jar of colored toothpicks when your student returnns from Fall Break, it would really help. Thank you!  Our technology teacher has been pulled from school (along with all other technology teachers across the county) to help with new servers needing installation.  SO, our Power Points will be made 10/29 & 10/30.  Students need to complete their projects no later than 10/27.

Mon. 10/6 CW: (1) In the library doing research for our Power Points. HW: collect facts & pictures you will need for your Power Point. You will need a jump drive or CD to store your Power Point on when you finish. I will buy CD’s if you can’t get one. It will cost 25 cents for the CD.

Tues. 10/7 CW: (1) “The Rotten Truth” video (2) finish edible landfill paragraphs if you haven’t (3) some classes got to see how trash is piling up in Naples HW: collect facts & pictures you will need for your Power Point. You will need a jump drive or CD to store your Power Point on when you finish. I will buy CD’s if you can’t get one. It will cost 25 cents for the CD.

Wed. 10/8 CW: (1) Catherine Justis Education Coordinator from Wolf River Conservatory came & made presentation  (2) Science World  HW: work on environmental project – it’s due 10/27  & we will make Power Points 10/29 & 10/30.

Thurs.10/9  CW: Ms. McLemore’s Webquest for the science book for chapters 2 -4. We went to the mobile laptop lab.   We learned all about the cool activities the online science textbook has.  You can do this at home ANY time to help you learn more & review what we are studying.  The address is www.go.hrw.com    username: dragons6  password: dragons.    Take a look at the activities & quizzes for every section in each chapter.  Go to weblinks to find fun games that reinforce these ideas.  HW: work on environmental project – it’s due 10/27  & we will make Power Points 10/29 & 10/30.
