January 12 – 16
SCIENCE FAIR INFORMATION WENT HOME MONDAY 1/12/09 FOR ALL 6TH GRADE STUDENTS AT CMS. (1) ALL students must complete an individual science experiment and write it up as a lab just like in our lab composition books. (2) APEX students must also make a copy of the information to put on a self standing tri-fold board (see board handout). APEX students may earn extra credit by doing a 1 1/2 page reserach paper using at least 2 sources that you put in a bibliography (3) Non APEX students may make a copy of the information & put it on a self standing tri-fold board (see hand out about how the board is to look) for extra credit. See handout for what is due on 1/16 1/23 and 1/30 – if you have a parent signature on the sheet in additions to the part of the lab due, you may earn extra credit. Each due date is a quiz grade. The due date for the final project is 2/5/09. It is due during homeroom. It is 10 points off for each day it is late. If it’s not here during homeroom, that’s late.
Mon. 1/12 CW: (1) Go over the 3 science fair handouts. These are the only copies you will get. DON’T LOSE THEM. If you were absent today, see me for these. (2) check wb. pp. 83-84 (3) complete puzzle from Friday if you didn’t (4) Test for chp. 10 is using your checked workbook pages & your book – you may finish tomorrow. HW: Decide what kind of experiment you want to do. On FRIDAY you must turn in your purpose, research, & hypothesis. For example, if my project was about what paws dogs & cats use, I would turn in Problem: Are cats and dogs more likely to be left pawed? Hypothesis: The majority of people are right handed. My cat and dog are both left pawed. IF cats and dogs are different than humans, then they are more likely to be left pawed.
Tues. 1/13 CW: (1) Complete open book & open workbook chp. 10 test. (2) Share constellation stories if you want (3) begin on definitions for chp. 8. Write each word in purple, its definition, and draw a colored picture beside the word. HW: Remember 1st deadline for science experiment is due Friday. See Monday night’s homework for example.
Wed. 1/14 CW: (1) Read & discuss about Earth’s sun – pp. 211 -215. (2) Do worksheet about the sun’s layers and what each one does. (3) wkbk. pp. 64-66 # 1-22 all. Finish this for homework if you didn’t finish in class. (4) work on chp. 8 defintions & colored pictures. HW: (1) finish wb. pp. 64-66 # 1-22 if you didnt’ in class. (2) Purpose, research (2 sentences of background information) and your hypothesis is due Friday.
Thurs. 1/15 CW: (1) Answer questions about what’s due tomorrow for science fair. (2) Bill Nye – 13 greatest astrological discoveries HW: Purpose, research 2 sentences of background information) and your hypothesis is due Friday.
Fri. 1/16 CW: (1) Check wkbk pp. 64-66 (2) Brainpop on the sun & 10 question quiz at end of brainpop (3) discuss planetissimals & how earth’s layers’ formed pp.404-405 & 416-417 (4) Brainpop on Earth’s layers (5) sheet on Earth’s layers – directions on my green board (6) Check purpose & hypothesis with each student & see if student has questions about his/her project HW: next Friday materials & procedures due
