December 8 -12

General News…We are going angel shopping Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Walmart. Meet at the grocery entrance at 6:30 & be picked up at the same entrance at 7:15. Ho Ho Ho…… it will be so much fun to make 2 year old Darryl’s Christmas merry!! THANK YOU to all who helped shop. Darryl will have a GREAT Christmas! We will wrap the presents during science on Thursday.

General News: We have $44 for our angel (thank you Brandi, Claire, Peyton, & Joseph D.) and 1 outfit (thank you Emily) for our toddler – he wears size 2T in clothes and a 6 in shoes. PLEASE ask to earn money by doing extra chores/jobs for your family members. We will shop next Monday 12/8 evening 6:30 p.m. at Walmart. Meet at the grocery entrance. We should be finished shopping no later than 7:15.  A Yearbook order form reminder went home Thursday.  Yearbooks need to be ordered & paid for on line.  See the sheet that came home Thursday.

Science 12/1 – 12/5

Mon. 12/1 CW: Read pp. 230-242 chp. 9 lesson 1 on planets & do wkbk. pp. 70-72 over section 1. Students did this throughout the day while taking their Think Link Test. HW: defintions for all of chp. 9 with a COLORED picture right beside the word/definition are due Friday.

Tues. 12/2 CW: Review planets – make chart for identifying characteristics of planets. ALL planets revolve and rotate and have mass. Otherwise, they are different. Watch Magic School Bus on planets and add notes to chart about each planet. HW: YIPPEE!!!! I got the lap top computer lab tomorrow. We will finish our Power Point presentations. Be sure & bring anything you need to complete your project tomorrow! defintions for all of chp. 9 with a COLORED picture right beside the word/definition are due Friday.

NEWS: (1) We have adopted an angel who is a two year old boy. He wears size 2T clothes and size 6 shoes. He needs clothes and a coat. He wants a bike and a teddy bear. Do you have any jobs your child can do for you or someone else to earn money to help donate for this worthy cause? Bring in money or unwrapped new gifts by Monday, December 8th. General News: (1) We only have 7 school days before Thanksgiving Break. That means MANY tests & quizzes that will overlap so that we have all testing completed before the break. PLEASE work on studying a little every night for every subject so you don’t get overloaded at the end of this week and beginning of next week. (2) Kids Kan food drive ends Tuesday of this week (3) My homeroom, you elected to adopt a little boy for Christmas. His needs and wants are coming home on Tuesday. General News:  Veteran’s Day Holiday Monday & Tuesday.  We are collecting cans for Kids Kan.  Our homeroom has mixed vegetables.  They’ll take any cans, though!  The Fall Dance is Friday after school.  Tickets are $5.  All proceeds go to autism charities.  It is from 3 – 5:30.  Students must have permission slip to buy ticket at lunch.  If they lost the permission sheet, write on paper their name, your name, your phone number, & give them (1) permission to stay for the dance and (2) if you want, permission for them to be in photographs.  For only $10 students may buy a CD which will have pictures of them from the dance.

Mon. & Tues. – Holiday

Wed. 11/12 CW: Owl pellet note taking & writing up lab.  Begin on definitions for chp. 6 – they are all due next Friday.  You must write the word, definition & draw a picture – you don’t have to color it.  HW: dress for lab tomorrow & Friday.

November 3-7

General News: (1) Green colored cards entitled Parent-Pupil Survey cards came home Monday & need to be completed & returned on Tuesday. Please follow the directions on the white sheet sent home with the green card. Be sure to sign it before returning it. Students in my homeroom returning the card by Tuesday will receive a treat. (2) Our homeroom is to collect for the food drive mixed vegetables in a can. Whatever you have here by next Friday 11/14, I’ll match on  Monday 11/17. For example, if you all bring in 20 cans, I’ll buy 20 more which means our class will have 40! (3) Veteran’s Day Assembly is Friday – wear red, white, & blue to HONOR the veterans – this is NOT a dress up wacky day

Science 11/3 – 11/7

Mon. 11/3 CW: (1) Look at the textbook on line for chp. 5 visual concepts for both geologic column & index fossil. (2) Look at brainpop on erosion & geologic time. (3) Discuss fossils, geologic column, index fossils, erosion, & eons, ephochs, eras, & periods. (4) Students finish lab on pp. 134-135. If you didn’t finish it in class today, you need to finish it at home tonight. HW: Read pp. 129-133. Write vocabulary words & their definitions on a piece of paper. On the SAME piece of paper answer the questions on p. 133. This is due Wednesday.

Tues. 11/4 CW: (1) Check Geologic column lab questions (2) Review all that is going to be on Friday’s chapter 5 test. We made a list of what to know for each section in their agenda books on this week’s page under Saturday. IF YOU WEREN’T HERE, GET IT FROM SOMEONE!!!!! Fri. 11/7 CW: (1) Turn in your study guide.  If you didn’t have it today, be sure to bring it next Wednesday to replace the “0″ you received for your grade.  It is 20 points off for each day it is late.  (2) Chp. 5 test – Did you notice it matched the study guide exactly?  HW: There is a dance next Friday after school.  Bring your permission slip & $5 to buy a ticket at lunch next Wednesday – Friday.  If you want to get pictures, both formal & candid it will only cost $10 for a CD of your pictures!  There are door prizes and a dance contest with a prize, if you want to compete.  Concessions will be sold for $1 to $2.  ALL the money goes to charity!  See you next Wednesday – have a safe Veteran’s Day holiday!

General News: My room is on an outside northern wall & gets chilly at times. Students probably need to be in long pants & have a sweater or jacket.  We have a HUGE Vetrean’s Day Assembly Friday, 11/7.  We will be sending care packages to soldiers serving overseas.  Please see the yellow letter about this that came home Wednesday of this week.  Veteran’s Day Holiday is 10/10 & 10/11 Thanksgiving Break is 11/26-11/30

Science: We FINALLY get to make our Power Points this Wedesday through Friday. On Friday, you will need a CD, jump drive, or $.25 to buy a CD from me so that you may take your Power Point home to share with your family.

General News: Open House is this Tuesday from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. All families are invited to attend. The Book Fair will occur in the library & pizza will be sold in the cafeteria. The Book Fair & the cafeteria will open at 5:00 and classrooms will be open at 5:30. Report Cards will go home on Wednesday. There are MANY things in the report card cover – the report card, a health screening form which MUST be signed & returned, an Accelerated Reader requirement sheet which also must be signed & returned, a letter about Ms. Smart being out on medical leave from 10/31 – 1/5, and a letter about the new requirements for honor roll – students must have at least 4 A’s, no C’s, no N’s, no U’s & the MAPS classes are included in these requirements.

Mon. 10/20 CW: Today was a drug free assembly from 11:50 -12:40 and a Pep Rally from 2:00 – 2:50. So for those classes that met, (1) Students completed workbook pp. 31-33 (2) Students worked on getting some things ready for a lab later in the week. HW: (1) dress for a lab that will be outdoors on Wednesday (2) Project information is due next Monday

Tues. 10/21 CW: We looked at the cost of smoking in terms of dollars and our health. It costs $1,440 per year to smoke if you smoke a pack a day. Then we drew pictures of smokers & non-smokers in terms of the health cost & material possessions cost. HW; (1) dress for lab outdoors tomorrow (2) Project information due Monday (3) Open House is tonight. Classrooms are open at 5:30

Wed. 10/22 CW: Due to the 8th graders taking a standardized test this morning, several science classes were not able to go outside for the lab since we would have been right by their windows. The classes who were inside worked on the Geologic Column Sandwich activity & will go outside tomorrow. Those outside will do the Geologic Column Sandwich activity tomorrow. HW: There are MANY forms to sign in the report card cover (1) the report card cover (2) the AR letter (3) Health screening letter. Also is the letter explaining the Honor Roll procedures – this is for your information & does not have to be signed & returned.

Thurs. 10/23 CW: (1) Class A & Class B couldn’t go outside for the lab due to the weather. We will try again tomorrow. (2) Class C & D got to complete the Geologic Column sandwich activity. HW:the environmental project information is due Monday. We will make Power Points in class next Wednesday – Friday.

Fri. 10/24 CW: (1) Students read chp. 5 lesson 2 pp. 115-119 & completed workbook pp. 33-35 while reading it.  We will check it together on Monday.  We had our E S celebration today for all students who made E’s & S’s on their report cards.  HW: Your environmental project information is due Monday.  We will make Power Points next Wednesday – Friday.  Bring your own jump drive or CD, or bring $.25 to me to buy a CD next Friday so you can take your Power Point home.

General News: (1) THANK YOU if you have sent in a $5 gift card for our nine weeks drawing NEXT Friday. We are going to have a recognition for all students who maintained all E’s & S’s in conduct for the first nine weeks of middle school. Report cards are being issued next Wednesday, so we have our reward next Friday. If you would still like to send one in, please send it with your student no later than next Friday morning 10/24. (2) Open House is next Tuesday 10/21 in the evening from 5:00 -7:30. (3) Report cards go home next Wednesday 10/22. You can see the grades on Power School now.

OPEN HOUSE NEWS: TUESDAY 10/21 5:00 -7:30 P.M. All areas of school are open. Pizza will be sold in the cafeteria. The Book Fair is in the library. Please join CMS Counselors, Mrs. Butner and Mrs. Kelly, along with our SRO, Officer Landers, in the CMS Auditorium during OPEN HOUSE to view current DVD’s on Huffing and Drinking. This is information that you NEED to know! Handouts will also be available. The Huffing DVD will be shown on the half-hours at 5:30 and 6:30. The Drinking DVD will be shown on the hour at 6:00 and 7:00. Please make time in your Open House schedule to view this material.

Science 10/13-10/17 We need colored toothpicks for a lab by Monday, if you can help, please send a tube of them by Monday 10/20. ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT IS DUE MON. 10/27. We are making Power Points in class that week.

If you missed this, be sure to talk to a responsible student and ask what we discussed about animal adaptations & how they allow an animal to survive changes. (2) On 1/2 piece of manilla paper name an animal, draw the animal, & list at least 2 – 3 adaptations that help is survive. Put your name in the lower right corner.
